Middle and High School

Citizenship metrics are at an all time low and the citizens of the US, in an increasingly polarized country, need consensus building skills, a thorough understanding of government and how it works, and an understanding of the need for equity across economic, educational, and workforce related spheres. This program consists of 12 sessions of civic education workshops designed to support young people in their path towards active citizenry. These fun, interactive sessions can be held within a local neighborhood and in collaboration with local schools. Hours spent in sessions and on service projects canbe applied toward high school students’ 100 hour requirement for their Seal of Civic Readiness, a special NY state designation on their diploma and transcripts. 111 New York State high schools participated in the pilot program guiding students towards receiving this special designation during the 2021-22 school year. Each workshop session includes a feedback loop for students and guidance for facilitators.
